March saw Texas Roadhouse emerge as the quickest expanding restaurant brand nationwide. Recent developments indicate that the steakhouse chain’s fast-casual burger brand Jaggers is also looking to enhance its presence.
Jaggers, which first opened in Noblesville, Ind., toward the end of 2014, offers scratch-made burgers, sandwiches, chicken tenders, and salads. Presently, the chain runs eight establishments spanning Louisville, Ky.; Indianapolis, Ind.; Southern Indiana; and Jacksonville, N.C. This number is set to potentially double soon.
In a Q3 earnings call, Jerry Morgan, Texas Roadhouse’s CEO, expressed that the company is “targeting” three Jaggers locations in 2024, and also anticipates at least nine new openings, including four Jaggers, by franchise partners. This implies a potential addition of seven new restaurants next year, bringing the total count to 15. As disclosed by Nation’s Restaurant News, Jaggers’ growth has been gradual, with just two locations at the beginning of 2020 and three by the close of that year. In 2021, the company signed its first franchise development agreement with The Saxton Group, intending to unveil 10 locations in east and central Texas and Tulsa, Okla. These establishments are currently in the developmental phase.
The expansion pace of the burger chain accelerated in 2022 with the debut of two new restaurants. During the same year, Jaggers also introduced a new mobile app featuring a loyalty program. Subsequently, in 2023, Jaggers opened three additional locations, bringing the total restaurant count to eight.
According to Texas Roadhouse’s late founder Kent Taylor, Jaggers was launched to create “a place that would have better burgers than Five Guys, and serve chicken tenders and sandwiches that could compete with Raising Cane’s and Chick-fil-A,” as per his book Made from Scratch: The Legendary Success Story of Texas Roadhouse.
In the recent earnings call, Morgan also unveiled the company’s plan to introduce an additional 30 company-owned Texas Roadhouse restaurants, along with 33 new Bubba’s 33 locations next year.
The sports bar chain, Bubba’s 33, under Texas Roadhouse currently stands at 45 locations in the US. In parallel, Texas Roadhouse boasts roughly 615 U.S. restaurants and previously announced intentions to expand to 900 locations.
